The Wise & The Foolish

.

He who walks with the wise
grows wise,
but a companion of fools
suffers harm.
- Proverbs 13:20

Would you be wise? Spend time with those who are wise, sit at the feet of those who regularly demonstrate and teach wisdom. Wisdom is contagious. Those who desire it will walk with those who have it, with those who regularly pursue it. In contrast those who spend time with the foolish will succumb to the contagion of foolishness and will no doubt reap much trouble.

I've been reading through Proverbs lately. I really like the counsel Proverbs provides, but at times I find it depressing because I feel (1) that it's nearly impossible to live wisely and (2) the grave consequences of not living wisely are made clear. Sometimes I feel almost doomed to mess up. Nevertheless, the call to walk in wisdom resonates with me.

MWH,

Thank goodness for the Gospel...

I empathize with your point and agree. I find myself pausing at the multiple references to the righteous in the Proverbs, remembering that I am not - and that we all are bankrupt in righteousness (wisdom too). But the Gospel reminds me that He is my righteousness, and He is my wisdom. "Abide in Me for apart from Me you can do nothing good."

"And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption"
- 1 Cor. 1:30
