Prayer: Duty vs. Delight

"If we were perfected, prayer would not be a duty, it would be a delight.  Some day, please God, it will be.  The same is true of many other behaviours which now appear as duties."

- C.S. Lewis, Letters to Malcolm

"Duty vs. Delight" and "Incomparable in Infinite Excellency" seem to fit together hand-in-glove.

I have made it a resolve to (1)memorize more scripture this year, and (2)take prayer more seriously and abandon my cavalier attitude toward it.

In a DVD series by Ray VanDerlaan, he mentions the greath lengths ancient pagans went to hear the oracles of false gods. And we Christians have the oracles of God at our fingertips and we treat it like we do any other inconvenience.

God, have mercy on us.

Mike,

I agree. 2 excellent resolutions.

Your comment reminds me of the recently released movie, "The book of Eli" which has a similar and uniquely powerful message regarding the importance of the Scriptures - and memorization.
