I indeed liked what you said, "God is the gospel" and compared it to your daughter liking gifts from you more than loving you. God is the gift of the gospel, but we often overlook that fact and look for what He can give us rather than looking solely for Him. Could that be what Jesus meant when he said, "Seek first the kingdom...and THEN all these things..."?
You could be onto something. For the motivating force behind seeking the kingdom of God seems to be that God is there.
There are also other verses that are more particularly focused upon God being our ultimate reward. I think about Psalm 73:25, "whom have I in heaven but you? And on earth there is nothing I desire besides you."
